Eight school districts in Washington State have formed the Sustainable Classroom Project.  They are doing amazing work, integrating technology seamlessly into classrooms.  To quote their website, "In the Sustainable Classroom Project, technology solutions were carefully selected to support the nine research-based instructional strategies that are identified in the book entitled Classroom Instruction That Works (Marzano, Pickering and Pollock, 2001, ASCD).

  • A single laptop computer, connected to a projector
  • A document camera
  • An interactive whiteboard
  • A wireless response system

Attached is a link to their website.  Be sure to view the videos with teacher best-practices and sample lessons of student work.

Robert J. Marzano, Pickering and Pollock, (2001, ASCD) have written "Classroom Instruction That Works", a fundamental resource for any educator developing teacher practice that significantly impacts learning in the classroom.  There have been many research papers written on Mr. Marzano's (et al) work.  I've attached one that nicely breaks down the "Nine Essential Instructional Strategies".  Our thanks to Laura Varias, ASCD Curriculum Update, Winter 2008.
