While reading about the Byzantine Empire and Justinian, I learned few things about it. Some of the things that I learned about the Byzantine Empire are that it is located in ancient Roman Empire for about one thousand years. Byzantine Empire became the threatened empire. Muslims occupied South and East of the Mediterranean in the 7th century. In the 11th century, the Turks had conquered Anatolia peninsula. The most important thing in the Byzantine Emperor was the Justinian. The Justinian code showed an update version of the Roman laws. In 380, Emperor Theodosius said Christianity is the religion in the Roman Empire. Byzantine church started to separate from Roman church. I learned these few things.

The Byzantine Empire was created when the Roman Empire divided. When the Roman Empire was divided it split into two empires. The empires were The Western Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire. The Western Roman Empire was overtook by Germanic tribes. The Byzantine Empire withstood Germanic tribe invasions. The capital of the Byzantine Empire was Constantinople. The first emperor of the Byzantine Empire was Justinian the First. Justinian ruled with absolute power. Absolute power is when a person can do what ever he wants and where ever he wants without being sued. Justinian ruled the Byzantine Empire with his wife. The Byzantine Empire had churches but were divided due to an between the Eastern Church and Western Church. The two churches became the Orthodox Church and The Roman Catholic Church. The Byzantine Empire lasted until 1453 when it was invaded by the Turks.

The middle age are form or divided in three different ages they are the the classical civilization of Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Modern Times. Between the ancient and the middle ages historians mark the fall of rome as the end of te ancient history. At the beggining of the middle ages the people often called Europe the dark ages because the great civelizations of greece and rome had fall, because of this the life in Europe was very hard, few people cold read and or write to improve their lifes and their families, for the people their only hope was their strong belief in christianity. By about 1450 the European territory began to experience a great change, scientist began to made great discoveries.
In 380 the emperor Theodosius declare that christianity was the official religion in the roman empire, because of this the byzantine church stared to separate from the roman church.

1.  Locate Constantinople on the map and explain what the significance of its geographic location.

The significance of the geographic location of Constantinople is that Constantinople represents a land bridge. It will be significant for trade between Europe and Asia, war and/or cultural diffusion..

2.  Using the information from the reading what religion do you believe most people are in Russia today?

I believe that most people in Russia are Christian Orthodox.

3.  What religion do you think people are in Italy?

I believe that in Italy most people are Roman Catholic.

4.  Why do you think people are these religions today?

Italians are most likely to follow Roman Catholic religion because they remained with the Roman Empire after the split of the Roman Empire from the Byzantine Empire. Russians are Christian Orthodox because they followed the Byzantine Empire. They also acquired a language, Cyrillic, developed by the monk Cyril. The language would have helped develop strong cultural ties and the people are more likely to stay in that religion.
